Civil Form Identity

Civil Form Identity

Visual

After talking to the client I started to get a solid view of a brand visual that would work well for their business.  A strong and simple identity to represent the unique trade of concrete forming but also something refined that would attract the Ancaster public and possible government contracts down the road.

Name

Admittedly I got really hung up on the strength of the letter "C" and how that could provide a solid base for the brand in all formats (i.e. branding iron for crates, letterpress for business cards, stamping for their concrete products, and also for clear distinction on the web).  The word "Civil" brings up thoughts of civil engineering, civil society and people (who these products are for), and calculated and well-thought-out refinement.  The word "Form" is taken from the concrete forms that they use to create their work and also to represent the many different forms (leaving the business unrestricted for future expansion) that their products may take as the business expands.

Colour

I haven't really addressed colour all that much at this stage though I do like the classic treatment of a deep dark grey (almost black but not quite) for it's timelessness and versatility.

Stationery

Giving you a look at what this brand would look like in practical application.  This example of business cards uses a print process called letterpress which uses a very thick paper stock and creates a deep impression in the card.  Though this print process is a bit more expensive than a standard card, it would send a message more in-line with craft trades like this.  There are a wide variety of options for processes and printing techniques for stationery.

Branding (literally)

Tagline / Message

"Art in Habitat" works well as it is concise and professional with an open-ended direction.

The Future

Don't forget to think long-term as well.  Will this business remain a sole-proprietorship or will this become a brick-and-mortar with many employees in the future?  The brand needs to be able to grow with the business as this representation is set up to do.

Libertea

I'm typically a coffee drinker myself but will definitely stop in for some Libertea if I get the chance.  A play on words, a striking visual, and modern colour palette give this tea company it's identity.

A fun project overall!
